Announcing The Winners of the ISIL and Foro Libre (Mexico) International Essay Contest Our essay contest this year has been sponsored jointly by ISIL and Foro Libre (Mexico). Essay guidelines called for evaluations/interpretations of either ISIL Director Ken Schoolland's prize-winning fable, "The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible: A Free Market Odyssey" – or Hernando de Soto's "The Mystery of Capital." After careful analysis of the essays presented by the contestants of this First International Essay Contest on Liberalism and the Free Market, the Jury and the ISIL & Foro Libre Boards of Directors are pleased to announce the following results: -
GOLD AWARD
Carlos Francisco Mendoza is the winner of the "Gold" award. His essay, based on ISIL Director Ken Schoolland's prize-winning fable "The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible: A Free Market Odyssey" was entitled: Ensayo sobre el libro "Las Aventuras de Jonathan Gullible." Mendoza is a 22 year old student at CESUES (Centro de Estudios Superiores del Estado de Sonora), in Hermosillo, Mexico (Sonora State), where he is studying Licenciatura on International Business. Mendoza's prize consisted of a full conference registration and 1st class hotel accommodations at the ISIL/Foro Libre world conference which was held in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (July 28 to Aug 1, 2002). His round trip air travel from Hermosillo, Sonora State, Mexico to Puerto Vallarta was also included. At the closing gala banquet he was presented with a 1-oz US Gold Eagle coin which was minted as a result efforts by libertarian Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) Click here to read Mendoza's essay (in Spanish). - SILVER AWARD
Alvaro Feuerman Claros is the winner of the "Silver" award for his essay based on Hernando de Soto's "The Mystery of Capital". His essay was entitled "Ensayo Acerca del Libro El Misterio del Capital por Hernando de Soto. Feuerman has a Master Degree in Economics and Business Administration at ESEADE, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Claros's award consisted of a full Puerto Vallarta conference registration package, 1st-class hotel accommodations and round trip air travel from Buenos Aires. He also received a prize of a 1-oz. US Silver Eagle coin. Click here to read Claros's essay (in Spanish). - BRONZE AWARD
 Charles Lam is the winner of the "Bronze" award. His essay, in "The Mystery of Capital" category was entitled: "A personal perspective and impression on The Mystery of Capital: Why Capitalism triumphs in the West and fails everywhere else".
Lam has an Executive MBA Degree from IMADEC University, Vienna, Austria. He also has a Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology. He is currently working for a research institution in Vienna, Austria. Lam's award was a full conference registration and 1st class hotel accommodations at the ISIL/Foro Libre conference. Unfortunately he was unable to attend due to conflicts in hia academic program – but the award will apply to the next ISIL world conference which is to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania (July 7 - 11, 2003).
